Resignations of teachers in Venezuelan public schools reaches 50%

La ONG Fundaredes warned this Thursday that the resignations of teachers in the country’s public schools reach 50% of the teaching staff and that the main causes are “erroneous educational policies and the decline in contractual rights that they should receive.”

“School desertion and the resignation of teachers is alarming, already reaching 50%, and which has touched the majority of schools, schools and high schools at the municipal, regional and national levels, a situation in which only the passivity of a State that does not guarantee training in a country”, explained the coordinator of the FundaRedes Education Observatory, Mackler García.

In a press release, the organization highlighted that this figure is the result of the “daily and permanent monitoring” that the observatory has carried out throughout the country and with which it also determined that “by the end of the last school year 2020-2021 a student desertion higher than 20% was evidenced».

The NGO, he assured, that it has managed to detect “constant violations” of human rights immersed in the educational system and asserted that there is a “state disinterest” in this area.

In this sense, García insisted that among the causes of the situation they register are “the unfulfilled promises, the lack of commitment and the disinterest that the State has shown for several years, extremely poor salaries that do not cover basic needs, disrespect for their rights as citizens and teachers, among others».

“The call is to the organizations of the Venezuelan State, so that they guarantee the rights that both educators and students must enjoy in a context where they are respected without any distinction, as stated in article 103 of the Constitution,” Fundaredes explained.
