Resignation of Patricio Fernández: Insights Into the 50th Anniversary of the Coup

Patricio Fernández referred this Monday to his resignation as presidential adviser for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup.

It should be remembered that the decision was made following pressure exerted by the Communist Party and various Human Rights organizations.

As exconvencial explained, the government “did not want me to resign from this position, it was something I insisted on. Some argue whether the government should have put more effort into getting me to continue, which I was not willing to do.”

in dialogue with Tele13 RadioFernández added that “in my life I have never defended or justified the coup, I have never participated in denialist attitudes, in fact, for 30 years I have dedicated myself to the opposite.”

In the same way, he recognized that “it is a much bigger issue than one, so I felt that I had to get out of there.”

Asked regarding the work that had been entrusted to him as presidential advisor of the instance, he explained that “in this I was invited to collaborate to give it a framework, a story, an environment, where it was expected that it would not be the government that filled a huge battery of activities, but that it came from civil society, it was this framework that they wanted to give it, under three key concepts: memory, democracy and future”.
