Resignation of Lilian Bachmann from the EERS Board and Implications for the Future of the Church

2023-08-21 18:18:14

Lawyer, member of the board of the EERS since June 2022 and in this capacity member of the board of foundation of the EPER (Entraide protestante suisse) and of the board of directors of the association Political Forum Bern, Lilian Bachmann will leave her position on December 31, 2023. The decision follows differences of opinion on the future strategic direction of the Church. Nonetheless, she said in an Aug. 18 statement: “I thank the Synod, the President and members of the Council, the staff of the Chancellery and all the people from the partner organizations for their collaboration.”

A decision regretted by the president of the EERS Rita Famos who expresses herself as follows: “Lilian Bachmann gave precious impulses to the work of the council, which we will continue to draw inspiration from for the continuation of the work of the EERS.” Moreover, this departure is the second since the beginning of the year. Indeed, Claudia Haslebacher, member since 2021, also announced her resignation last April. In addition, the appointed commission must quickly find replacements to organize the election during the autumn synod in Bern, from November 5 to 7.
