KEPCO President Jeong Seung-il, who has been under pressure from the ruling party to resign due to a deficit of tens of trillions of won and rising electricity rates, has finally expressed his intention to resign.

President Jeong explained, at the place where he announced KEPCO’s high-intensity self-rescue plan this morning, “I intend to step down as president of Korea Electric Power Corporation today.”

While announcing KEPCO’s self-rescue measures requested by the political world before the electricity rate hike, President Jeong said, “It is fortunate that we are announcing the self-rescue plan, which is the first step in the electricity rate adjustment process that has been put on hold since the first quarter.” It will be an important stepping stone on the road to normalization.”

President Jeong, who took office as KEPCO president in June 2021, left his term until May next year, and has been under pressure from the political world to resign over the recent rapidly increasing deficit and electricity rate hike.
