Residents with a hearing disability are consulted in Lithuanian sign language in “Sodra”. Business

The service is provided remotely in ten “Sodra” customer reception centers: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Alytus, Marijampole, Mažeikiai, Utena, Kėdainiai.

Sodra pays a lot of attention to adapting its services and buildings to people with disabilities. It is important for us that all people, regardless of their capabilities, receive social insurance services in a way that is acceptable to them”, says Jurgita Leikienė, head of the Customer Service Management Department at Sodra.

A person who has a hearing disability and communicates in Lithuanian sign language, upon arriving at the customer reception, can call a Lithuanian sign language interpreter through a convenient mobile device – a special tablet with an integrated speaker and camera. The translator communicates remotely, through a video call, in real time and helps the customer reception staff to communicate with the customer who came to “Sodra” in Lithuanian sign language.

Mykolas Balaišis, the director of the Kaunas Deaf Center, was the first to take advantage of the consultation in Lithuanian sign language.

“I tried a consultation with a remote sign language translation service at the Sodra branch in Kaunas and I can say – it works perfectly!” It’s really very convenient: the sign language interpreter is clearly visible on the screen, you don’t need to hold the tablet in your hands, you can communicate in sign language without interference. The workplace of the employee providing consultations for the deaf is clearly visible, reception is easy and pleasant. This is an excellent example of how it is possible to ensure adequate services for persons with hearing disabilities,” says Mykolas Balaišis.

As with other consultations, you need to register in advance for a Lithuanian sign language consultation. You can register for a visit by filling out the registration form form https://www.sodra.lt/isankstine-klientu-registracija or by calling +370 5 250 0883. Each client who registers for a consultation will receive a confirmation and a ticket number with the exact time of the visit.
