Residents of the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis have reported tank shelling and intense gun battles between Israeli forces and Hamas overnight, as well as a series of airstrikes. The Israeli army continued its attacks in Khan Younis and in Jabalia in the north on Sunday night, the Times of Israel newspaper also reported, citing Palestinian reports.

Israel’s Arabic-speaking spokesman posted a map on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday that marked six blocks of Khan Younis in southern Gaza that should be evacuated “urgently.”

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced the deaths of five of its soldiers in a statement early Sunday morning. Four soldiers were killed in the fighting in the southern Gaza Strip. The fifth soldier succumbed to his injuries following the fighting on October 7th, the Israeli army said on X.

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister for International Organizations Kim Son-gyong criticized the US for blocking the UN resolution for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. “The United States’ abuse of its veto power to protect an ally that has massacred tens of thousands of civilians is not only an expression of an illegal and inappropriate double standard, but also the height of inhumane evil,” the minister said, as reported by state news agency KCNA reported on Sunday. The United States would contradict itself if it tolerated the ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip while condemning North Korea’s recent satellite launch, which has not harmed any other country.
