Last week five families of residents of Juodkrantė were marked by disaster – on Thursday evening, a wooden residential house located right next to the central street caught fire.

Mayor Darius Jasaitis immediately informed that people will not be left without a home and that municipal housing will be sought for them. On Tuesday, two families had already moved. As Sandra Berletaitė, the chairman of the Juodkrantė community, said, insurance matters are also being handled at the moment. As far as we could find out, only one dwelling was uninsured.

“Everyone came together to help – it cannot be otherwise in a small community. One resident agreed to provide premises where things will be temporarily stored. Although there is a saying about the neighbor’s house on fire, it does not apply here. Everyone here is communal,” said the interviewer.

Most of the population is elderly and has health problems.

“The cause is still under investigation. However, it is clear that it was neither arson nor some kind of careless smoking in bed,” claimed the woman from the Black Sea.
