Residents of a rest home in Marcinelle are mobilizing to recruit staff: “You will immediately feel that it is pleasant to work here”

A rest home in Marcinelle (province of Hainaut) is understaffed. The institution is looking for 3 nurses and a caregiver. They contacted our editorial staff via the orange Alert Us button, because residents are getting involved in launching calls for applications, particularly via social networks.

Suzanne, Henri or even Georgine. They are 10 to have posed to launch a call for applications. “You will immediately feel that it is pleasant to work here”, a resident tells us.

They see the staff struggling and chaining the hours. They are grateful and want to let potential candidates know. A warm and family atmosphere, but physically and morally it becomes complicated.

“We give more and more to manage to do the tasks as they should be done and it’s complicated. We shoot and fatigue sets in”, says Monique Hody, head nurse.

It lacks three full-time nurses and a nursing assistant. Planning is a real headache.

The management tries to relieve the staff as much as possible, but there are fewer and fewer solutions. “We do what we can, as best we can. We call on temporary workers, but if it’s more and more rare. Before we called on temporary workers, we were sure to have someone, now it’s difficult”, indicates France Stevenne, the director of the residence.

After many weeks of unsuccessful research, the call for applications from residents was launched yesterday on social networks.
