Residents in Jumet are struggling with a street that has two names: “If I don’t give the other name, the delivery won’t arrive!”

In Charleroi, there is a street that has two different names depending on which side of it you are on, causing confusion for delivery people, GPS users, and residents. Grégory has lived on Rue de la Marine in Jumet for 42 years, while his neighbor Vincent lives just across from him, but in Lodelinsart on Rue du Château d’eau. This leads to missed deliveries and lost postmen, forcing neighbors to work together to navigate the confusion. Some residents have resorted to giving opposite building numbers to help delivery people find their way. The city has acknowledged the problem and is considering consolidating the street under one name, but it will take time to implement.

In Charleroi, the neighbors do not all live in the same street. It has 2 names… depending on the side. A real headache for delivery people and for GPS users. But also for the inhabitants.

Grégory has lived on rue de la Marine, in Jumet, for 42 years. His neighbor Vincent, lives just opposite. Although he is in the same street as Grégory, he is noted as living in Lodelinsart, rue du Château d’eau. Consequence: two different names exist, for the same street. Grégory no longer counts the deliveries that do not succeed, and the postmen who get lost: “The neighbors are starting to get to know each other because we constantly have to pick up our packages. We go around the neighborhood to find out where he is. If they are nice, they come directly to deliver it to us.

Misadventures that renew ties between neighbors, but delivery errors remain frequent. The inhabitants of the street have therefore adopted different reflexes: “I have to give the number opposite, otherwise the delivery man will never find the address. Next door is Jumet. On the other, it’s Lodelinsart.”, laments Vincent, a resident of rue du Château d’eau, in Lodelinsart.

A real headache, also for deliveries: “We get lost! Sometimes we ring at a door and we realize that we made a mistake. So, hop, we turn around!“, laughs Aurélie, who has been delivering meals for 6 years.

Residents then ask the municipality to solve these problems: “We don’t believe it anymore… They’ve been talking regarding it for 10 years now. They might just choose one of two names. Either rue de la Marine or rue du Château d’eau. In Charleroi, they don’t like simple things apparentlyt.”, ironically Grégory.

The city says it is not opposed to the possibility of opting for only one name, and new numbers. But that will take time.

In conclusion, the dual-naming of the same street in Charleroi has caused inconvenience and confusion for both residents and delivery people. Despite the residents’ requests for a solution, the city acknowledges the issue but unfortunately, the resolution will take time. In the meantime, the neighbors continue to bond over misdelivered packages and missed deliveries, making the best of a frustrating situation. Hopefully, a satisfactory solution will be found soon to end the headache of two street names.
