Resident of Irkutsk sentenced to 10 years for explosion in elevator

A jury of the Sverdlovsk District Court of Irkutsk passed a sentence on a 52-year-old local resident who was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional damage to property committed by explosion), part 1 of Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal possession of explosives or explosive devices), Part 1 of Art. 223.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal manufacture of explosives). According to the press service of the regional Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the man was sentenced to 10 years in a general regime colony, and must also pay a fine of 220 thousand rubles.

“In the daytime on November 30, 2021, when lifting the elevator in a residential building located on Marshal Konev Street in Irkutsk, there was a bang, an emergency stop worked. As a result of the incident, a 30-year-old man, who was in the elevator cabin, received various injuries and was taken to the hospital. The incident occurred due to the operation of a homemade explosive device without damaging elements. Investigators of the Investigative Committee, in cooperation with the criminal investigation officers, in hot pursuit, detained a man living in one of the apartments in this entrance of the house, ”the message says.

A source in law enforcement in a conversation with Kommersant noted that the explosive device was deliberately planted in the elevator. The reason was a conflict between neighbors. The press service of the regional department of the FSB of Russia reported to Kommersant that the convict actively “cooperated with the investigation and partially compensated for property damage.”
