Highlights The success of Resident Evil 4 Remake lies in its ability to reinvigorate the original experience by reimagining it in a modern setting, which has garnered praise from fans. The ideal format for Resident Evil 9 would be to follow the template of Resident Evil 4, ensuring a well-balanced mix of horror and action that appeals to a wide audience. Resident Evil 4’s simple story and focus on the main character, Leon S. Kennedy, contributed to its long-term popularity. Capcom must keep this formula for Resident Evil 9 to avoid losing the core of the series. As the Resident Evil franchise has taken a major turn on what fans were familiar with in its early years, it has only resulted in praise all around. Arguably, the most successful of the titles including the remakes is the Resident Evil 4 remake, as it completely revitalizes the original 2005 experience. Taking what fans loved in the first place, and reimagining it for a more modern setting seems to have worked wonders. Related: The best duos in Resident Evil With the next major installment of the franchise, Resident Evil 9, Capcom would be doing themselves a huge favor by keeping installment IX close to Resident Evil 4 in many of its aspects, especially if the main characters are set to make a return. 5 Title Trendsetter Many fans of Resident Evil 4 will be familiar with the game’s huge legacy over other titles. From the introduction of an over-the-shoulder camera perspective versus the franchise’s fixed camera angles to the jump in graphical fidelity at the time compared to its predecessors, Resident Evil 4 delivered one of the best gaming experiences. With both the original and the remake now available as a working block from Capcom, this is the perfect format for Resident Evil 9 and should be a staple for the rest of future releases in the franchise, with or without the main characters fans love. 4 Best Balanced Action/Horror Film When it comes to the many other entries in the franchise, fans will often find that they lean too far into action or horror, leading to praise or disappointment among the various crowds. While both the original Resident Evil 4 and its remake produce a great balance between the two tones, the 2023 version surpasses it in this arcade, providing a more serious and menacing feel to players. Relevant: Every Resident Evil remake is ranked Despite the franchise’s core roots in horror, action has now become a central feature of all entries, and Resident Evil 9 would benefit from staying within that same line, but sticking more to it’s Resident Evil 4 style. Although some titles may lean too far in one of the two tones as previously mentioned, the inclusion of the two has proven successful in recent times. 3 Simple Story A key aspect of Resident Evil 4 in both versions that has contributed to its long-term success and popularity is the simplicity of its story. While there are other arcs and characters at play throughout the journey, the focus is the mission to rescue Leon S. Kennedy, where the first priority is to rescue the President’s daughter, Ashley Graham. While there’s always room for expanded stories and more lore, Capcom has to ensure that Resident Evil 9 keeps this formula, and doesn’t become unrecognizable in an aspect of its story and characters, which has been one of the criticisms fans have leveled at it. Hamlet’s Shadows of the Rose DLC though all takes place in a dream. 2 Focus on the Main Character Resident Evil 6’s biggest issues lie not only in the area of too much action, but also in the inclusion of multiple campaigns. Whereas previous entries such as Resident Evil 2 featured two separate campaigns that tied into access to Leon or Claire Redfield, Resident Evil 6 took this up another notch by adding two more campaigns. Related: The least fearsome monsters in the history of Resident Evil For most of the franchise’s most iconic titles, in particular Resident Evil 4, Capcom implemented their elements of playable characters perfectly, with a mercenary mode allowing players to use characters other than Leon. In the case of Resident Evil 9, Capcom should stick to a one-on-one campaign with one or two playable characters like Resident Evil 5, but make sure this focuses on the characters and their role in the story rather than the overabundance of Resident Evil 6. 1 Multiple regions despite the evil Resident 4 only featured three distinct areas of the village, castle, and island throughout its entire run, and Capcom has executed this so well that it allows for a feeling of freshness and newness every time you play. Not only did this help provide a new setting and atmosphere each time, but it also meant that enemies would look a lot different, or that new enemies would come into full play. This seems like the best way to create a fully satisfying Resident Evil experience, and given the templates for Resident Evil 4 in both versions, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, and Resident Evil 8 Village, already in place for Capcom to work from, can all build towards creating an even better experience. Now Resident Evil 9. If developers can replicate or even come close to the landscape and storytelling environment Resident Evil 4 provides, then it will only lead to success. Resident Evil 4 Remake is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PC. More: Resident Evil 9 needs Albert Wesker
