After months of rumors and gossip, the remake of Resident Evil 4 is finally formalized by Capcom. A half-surprise announcement, therefore, having taken place during PlayStation’s State of Play, broadcast last night. A first trailerall in cinematic sequences, was broadcast… Without any concrete images of gameplay.
Leon S. Kennedy fans can at least reassure themselves with a release date on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Because yes: Resident Evil 4 will now be a next-gen game, with no planned release on older generation PS4 and XONE consoles. A big leap forward that might play an important role in the final version of the title.
Resident Evil 4 presents its remake in video
It is therefore on March 24, 2023 that this Resident Evil 4 new age will land on consoles and PC. A date that might always be subject to last minute delays, AAA development requires. One thing is sure: the surprise effect of the announcement was greatly reduced by the many, many leaks having taken place in the last few months. The development of a remake of this cult fourth episode was an open secret within the industry, and the only unknown was its release horizon, which ultimately turns out to be much closer than expected.
A remake, therefore, but which promises to stay “true to the essence of the original game”announces Capcom in its press release. Resident Evil 4 version 2023 will benefit from a “modernized gameplay”but also a “narrative reimagined” and of “detailed graphics”. Only planned on next-gen hardware and PC, Leon’s adventure should thus take full advantage of their new capacities and overcome the old aging consoles.
Without surprise, RE4 will once once more take advantage of the RE Engine, Capcom’s in-house game engine, already used on Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 8but also the two remakes of the episodes 2 et 3. We will therefore have to wait until next year to discover, controller in hand, this new reinterpretation of the Spanish land excursion.
