Most cell phone companies offer generous upgrade plans nowadays, making it easy to get the latest iPhone without losing a lot of cash.

The official upgrade process at most retailers includes a factory reset step, ensuring that all your data is wiped clean and preventing any subsequent users from accessing your files.

And if you’re looking to sell your device yourself, you’ll need to know how to reset your iPhone and wipe it clean, Digital Trend reports.

It’s also a good idea to know how the process works before heading to AT&T or Verizon to upgrade, that way you can be sure your personal data is safely removed from your old phone.

Fortunately, the process is similar on all recent iPhones, including the new iPhone 15.

Here’s how to reset your iPhone and wipe its drive before giving it away.

How to reset your iPhone 15 and other models

The easiest way to reset your iPhone is to turn it off. This method is often called a “soft reset” because, unlike a factory reset, you will not lose any data, nor will you delete anything from your phone.

Consider a soft reset when your phone is running slow, an app isn’t launching or working properly, or if you’re having a minor issue but your iPhone is still responsive.

Apple has changed how to perform a soft reset on the iPhone Series

All you do here is turn off your phone.

Step 1: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button On iPhone X and later models, you’ll find the Sleep/Wake button on the right side of the phone.

Step 2: Place your finger on the slider that appears to turn off, then swipe to the right.

Step 3: Once there is nothing on the screen and it turns black, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button once more until the Apple logo appears to turn it back on.

If you’re using an iPhone SE, iPhone 8 or earlier, you can turn off your iPhone by simply holding down the Sleep/wake button until the slider appears.
