Rescuers in Luxembourg: “Des gens engagés, c’est le point fort du CGDIS”

In the courtyard of the Kahler Rescue Center (CIS), in Garnich, the firefighters were well lined up on Tuesday followingnoon, awaiting the arrival of Taina Bofferding (LSAP). In the front row, a dozen children and teenagers, also in uniform. The Minister of the Interior visited four sites during the day, to “have direct contact with the people involved in the field”, she explains. She was treated to fire hose demonstrations, one of them having copiously sprinkled part of the audience!

After playing a game of pushing a ball up a ladder using water pressure, the minister visited the premises. Two children explained to him how they learned the basics of the trade in these rooms, in particular cardiac massages or the art of making knots. “I met very committed people, that’s the strong point of the CGDIS,” emphasizes Taina Bofferding.

“Here, they are strong in working with young people, it’s very important,” continues the political leader. “Recruitment is the biggest problem, it’s difficult to find young people,” confirms Claude Giersch, first lieutenant and commanding officer. However, he is delighted to “be able to count on young workers, who help a lot”. Recruitment is “envisaged in the development of the National Relief Organization Plan (PNOS)”, continues Taina Bofferding. It recalls the objective of “intervention in 15 minutes”, at all points in the territory.
