A month ago almost to the day, little Jupiter, a 4-year-old shih-tzu, was picked up by the La Louvière SPA in a vacant lot near the Cora. Unchipped, Jupiter had been found in a bad state, covered in mud and filled… with worms and maggots that were literally crawling under his skin following having dug holes and deep wounds. “A priori, it is a dog that had already been reported to us several times but we had not been able to find it”, explained to us at the time Gaëtan Sgualdino, president of the SPA La Louvière. “When we got him back, we had to rush him to our vet. It was filled with worms that had caused significant injuries to the animal.”
A few days following being found, Jupiter was already feeling better. “Honestly, we thought we weren’t going to be able to do anything but let him go. It had actual worm holes. He is better today but it will take him a while to recover and be back with his family.”
A month of intensive care
A month following the events and following being treated by professionals, Jupiter, in agony just a few weeks ago, has regained his strength and is fit for adoption and is looking for a new family in which he can flourish. “He is now living once more”, communicated the SPA La Louvière. “His infected wounds are ancient history. He is saved. We were very afraid for him given the importance of certain wounds. During the care he was given, he was treated and shaved to eliminate each fly worm that was gnawing on his flesh.
Today, Jupiter is safe and sound and is looking for a new home that is more welcoming than a vacant lot. “He is a small dog very close to humans. He cohabits perfectly with dogs but can be harassing with cats with whom he likes to play. Sometimes excessively. We are looking for a new family for him who will be with him most of the time. Jupiter might suit an older person despite his young age.”
