Last Wednesday, the heartbreaking cry of an infant caught the attention of a passerby in the city’s suburbs. The man quickly discovered that the baby was in a garbage bag carried by the stray dog. Immediately, he alerted the emergency services, and the little girl, only a few months old, was taken to hospital for treatment.
The girl, covered with bruises all over her body, is currently in stable condition. However, it is not yet known who committed this act or when precisely the abandonment took place.
Ghassan Rifi, a journalist with Arab News, commented to Arab News: “When parents can no longer take care of their children, they usually resort to an orphanage or a police station.” In this case, however, it appears the baby was intentionally left in a dangerous place, probably in hopes of being attacked by stray dogs.
