Rescue of a 19-year-old from a cave 20 meters deep

The young man whose rescue was set up in Preveza is safe and sound.

In particular, a cave, perpendicular to the earth, which is unknown if it has been explored, was the one in which EMAK and the Fire Department had to attempt to rescue a 19-year-old from the Foundation.

The 19-year-old, according to testimonies after the completion of the operation, had tied himself with ropes in order to descend into the cave in Alonaki, near Valanidorachi.

It reached a depth of about twenty meters where a loft is formed..

It was then impossible for him to rise to the surface again. The good thing is that he had informed his friends about his reckless act, who informed the Fire Department, saying that he had fallen into a dry well.

Fire brigade, EMAK and volunteers of LEK Preveza tried to the scene. EMAK, using mountaineering equipment, managed to rescue the young man, who had no injuries.

**Interview with Local Rescue Official: The Successful Operation⁤ in Preveza**

**Editor:** Today, we’re joined by Captain Nikos Stavros from ‌the Preveza Fire Department, who was involved in the recent rescue operation of a 19-year-old man‍ from a cave in Alonaki, near Valanidorachi. Thank you for being here, Captain.

**Captain Stavros:** Thank you‍ for having me.

**Editor:** Can you tell‍ us what happened during the rescue operation?

**Captain Stavros:** Certainly. We received a call⁤ regarding a young man who had attempted to descend‌ into a previously unexplored cave. He secured himself with ropes⁢ but, unfortunately,⁤ found himself in a situation where he needed assistance. Our team from EMAK, ⁤the Special Disaster Response Unit,⁣ and the Fire Department responded quickly to assess the situation.

**Editor:** How challenging ⁣was it to navigate and execute the rescue in such an unknown cave?

**Captain⁤ Stavros:** It ⁢was quite challenging. The cave’s vertical nature posed⁣ significant risks, and we had limited information about its layout. Our priority ⁣was to ensure the safety of both the young man and our ⁣rescuers. We deployed a series of ropes and safety measures as we descended.

**Editor:** What‌ were the young man’s conditions when he was found?

**Captain Stavros:** When ‍we reached him, he was‌ surprisingly calm but understandably anxious. Fortunately, he did not sustain any injuries, and once we secured him, we were⁢ able to bring him back safely to the surface.

**Editor:** This ⁤incident highlights the importance of ‌safety when exploring such areas. Do you have any‍ advice for young adventurers?

**Captain Stavros:** Absolutely. Always prioritize safety: go with friends, inform someone about your plans, and use proper equipment. If you’re unsure about an area, it’s best to ⁣seek advice from local authorities or experienced explorers before descending into unknown environments.

**Editor:** Thank you, Captain Stavros, for‌ sharing these crucial insights and for ‌your team’s swift response in ‌this operation. We’re relieved to hear that the young man ⁣is safe.
