Rescue of 62 people killed in Brazil plane crash ends

“The work of rescuing the bodies, which was the most urgent part, is completed thanks to the integration of the efforts of several entities that participate in the tasks,” the agency reported. He also said that 50 bodies had already been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine from São Paulo, where 30 have already undergone autopsies and identification efforts have begun.

According to the fire department, two victims, the pilot and co-pilot, have been identified by fingerprint tests.

In turn, Lieutenant Perroni said that the firefighters had difficulties in rescuing the last bodies, which were in the rear of the aircraft, since it was the most destroyed by the impact and by the fire that started after the crash with the ground.

The bodies recovered from the front of the plane can be identified by fingerprint tests, according to firefighters, but those removed from the back, which are charred, will need other types of techniques, including genetic comparison.

Fire captain Michael Cristo said the bodies were found sitting in the seats they were occupying on the plane, and none had been thrown out of the aircraft. This could help with identification.

Nearly 250 firefighters, rescue workers, experts, police officers and investigators are working on the rescue work, which will continue tomorrow, Sunday, with the removal of debris and the gathering of evidence for the investigation.

Voepass airline released a statement on Saturday morning to include a man on the list of victims who was not initially present due to errors in the check-in validation. With this, it confirmed that there were 62 victims.

Three Venezuelans

This afternoon, the company issued another statement to clarify that on the passenger list there were three Venezuelans and one Portuguese woman who used Brazilian documents to board, but have dual nationality.

The Venezuelan victims were identified as Josgleidys Gonzalez; his mother, Maria Parraand his son, Joslan Perez4 years old, who embarked for São Paulo with the intention of returning to their country, after four years in Brazil.

The crashed plane, a French-made twin-engine ATR-72-500, was flying from Cascavel to São Paulo and crashed about 80 kilometres from its destination.

Although it fell in a residential area, the aircraft crashed in the backyards of a housing complex without damaging buildings or leaving any victims on the ground.
