United but separate. This will apparently be the electoral strategy of the Chilean right, facing the regional and municipal elections on October 27, since everything indicates that there will not be a common list between Chile Vamos and the Republican Party, but there will be pacts by omission.
In a region like Ñuble, where the community led by José Antonio Kast has achieved the best results in the country, the candidates will be chosen “with tweezers”, since as all the parties in the sector have stated, the primary objective is to gain space for the officialdom. And one of the ways is by achieving seats in municipal councils and regional councils.
Furthermore, the community would be prioritizing candidates for regional governor throughout the country, mainly because currently, of the sixteen authorities, fifteen are center-left.
Jorge Luis Sánchez, regional president of the Republicans, announced that they will bring candidates for councilors in fourteen of the twenty-one communes in the region.
“We will have candidates for councilors in fourteen of the twenty-one communes, and so far, prior to registration, we have six candidates for mayor. We are evaluating the movement of each one of them, how they are participating, if they are doing a pre-campaign, because we are working hard on this, we have not stopped,” he stated. Sánchez confirmed that the agricultural businessman Diego Fernández Mozó is working in San Carlos, and in Quillón, the dental surgeon Felipe Fuentealba Godoy.
“They are the ones who have had the most movement in terms of activities, and we will evaluate if the rest are working at the same level. We are super strict in that sense, we do not want what happens in other communes, where the mayors are being questioned, as is the case of Ñiquén or San Ignacio. For that we are doing an analysis, getting to know the people very well, because we are not going to take candidates for the sake of taking. That is not our Republican idea, those who compete are going to be 100% good people, people who are going to face a challenge knowing what it is regarding. Do not sit like a candidate for councilor who is taken, who is only going to earn a few pesos,” he expressed.
Sánchez added that they are training their pre-candidates with public speaking courses, and courses related to politics and work in the municipalities.
Capital regional
Thinking regarding the regional capital, the Republican Party has practically a complete list of candidates for councilor in Chillán, where ten councilors will be elected.
“We are not going to bring a candidate for mayor in Chillán, but we are going to bring candidates to the Regional Council in two provinces: Diguillín and Punilla,” said Sánchez.
This means that the party will support the person chosen by Chile Vamos, which until now would be the former communal chief, Sergio Zarzar.
“As for the gubernatorial election, we have two pre-candidates in the pipeline,” he added. In this case, the Republican Party can perfectly carry its own card – as it did in 2021 – since the election has a second round. It should be remembered that until now, the names of Óscar Crisóstomo (PS), Cristóbal Jardua (UDI) and Cristian Quilodrán (independent) have already been installed.
