Republican McCarthy also loses third round in House of Representatives – vote adjourned – USA

Washington – Instead of a triumphant election victory, the battle for the post as Speaker of the US House of Representatives seems to be a historic puzzle. Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy was unable to win a majority following three ballots on Tuesday – because right-wing MPs from his own party opposed him and gave Ohio’s Jim Jordan 20 votes in the third ballot. It is the first time in a hundred years that the Speaker of the House of Representatives has not been elected on the first ballot. The vote was adjourned.
