Dr. Mohamed Rushdi, Dean of the College, indicated that the symposium aims to raise educational awareness among male and female students, explaining that the issue of reproductive health and family planning is among the state’s priorities to reduce population growth rates that devour the fruits of development.
Rushdi appreciated the state’s efforts in organizing free convoys aimed at raising citizens’ awareness, pointing out that South Valley University spares no effort in implementing medical convoys in the villages of the South Upper Egypt region, which include health education services for women and educating them on the importance of family planning and reproductive health.
During the symposium, Dr. Ahmed Hamdi Mohamed Shams, Lecturer of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Faculty of Medicine at South Valley University, spoke regarding the concept of reproductive health, which means people’s ability to have a responsible, satisfying and safer sex life, and to be able to have children and have the freedom to choose when and how to do so.
They also include that men and women know regarding safe, effective, affordable, and acceptable methods of birth control; As well as access to appropriate health care services, and the application of health education programmes; To emphasize that having a safe pregnancy and childbirth provides couples with the best chance of having a healthy child, stressing that reproductive health should be seen as an approach to my life because it affects both men and women from childhood to old age.
He explained that in order to achieve a better level of reproductive health, it is necessary to involve men and women in the reproductive decision of the family, and to introduce these concepts to both young men and women at an early age. Rather, the concept of reproductive health is more comprehensive than that, and it is the responsibility of everyone at all stages of life.
Then he talked regarding family planning, which is one of the basic means to curb unsustainable population growth and its negative effects on the economy, the environment, and the development efforts being made at the national and regional levels, as well as enabling family planning to determine the number of children they wish to have and the spacing between pregnancies It can be achieved by using contraceptive methods and infertility treatment.
