Reprimanded for plagiarism: the SAQ will keep Laurent Turcot’s capsules

The historian Laurent Turcot, reprimanded for plagiarism by the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières (UQTR), participated in the 100th anniversary festivities of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ), last year. The state-owned company says it has made the necessary checks and plans to keep its capsules online.

After an analysis carried out by a committee, the UQTR underlined in a letter sent to Mr. Turcot: “Certain quotations in your book are not presented as such […]which constitutes plagiarism.

Mr. Turcot answered the Journal that his book had, among other things, been prepared with the help of course notes and that some references may have been inadvertently removed. He nevertheless conceded that “some mistakes were made”. He received no sanction.
