The end of a particularly glorious career in Spanish football. Thiago Alcantara has decided to retire from football, Fabrizio Romano reports today (Sunday), and will hang up his shoes at the age of 33 following a tremendous career of 16 years.

The midfielder started his career in the youth department of the Brazilian Flamengo, joined the youth department of Barcelona in 2005 and in May 2009 made his debut in the senior team. Alcantara, who became a leading player for the Catalans, won 4 championships and a Spanish Cup with them and also lifted the Champions League trophy in the 2010/2011 season with Barca.

In 2013, he was sold from Barcelona to Bayern Munich for 25 million euros, and with the Bavarians he spent a long period of no less than seven years. During his time at Bayern, Alcantara won seven championships and four cups, in addition to another Champions League title in his last season at the club – 2019/2020.

Alcantara started the 2020/2021 season in Liverpool and almost lifted the trophy with the big ears, but surrendered with the Merseysiders in the 2021/2022 final to Real Madrid. Alcantara participated in a total of 487 official matches during his entire career, during which he scored 48 goals and assisted 63 more goals.

During his years in football, and especially in recent years, Alcantara suffered a few injuries that prevented him from becoming even greater, but in any case he can boast of an outstanding career.
