Apple is reportedly planning an overhaul of its Mac computers to equip them with the most advanced M4 processors in a bid to spur declining sales and catch up with rivals in artificial intelligence.

Apple is now planning to refresh its personal computer lineup once more, following the launch of a new Mac series equipped with M3 chips last November, Bloomberg reported late on Thursday, citing sources.

The tech giant’s plan is aimed at boosting sales of Mac products, which fell 27% throughout fiscal 2023 following peaking in 2022. Despite the launch of the M3 range, sales during the Christmas period were almost flat at $7.78 billion, compared with $7.73 billion a year earlier.

However, Apple made progress in the first quarter, with Mac shipments rising 14.8% in the first three months of 2024. The first quarter of 2023 was the worst quarter in the history of computer sales.
