Mission :
Welcome, support and accompany people consuming psychotropic drugs, their entourage and the general population of the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district and surrounding areas, within the framework of prevention of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and other STIs.
Job Description :
Under the responsibility of clinical coordination, the worker provides all services. Using a harm reduction approach, it works with a view to preventing sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) among people who use drugs by injection and inhalation as well as people practicing sex work.
Tasks :
- Develop and maintain relationships of trust;
- Offer a one-off intervention adapted to the person’s needs (assessment, support, accompaniment, personalized references, etc.) while respecting their pace and promoting their autonomy;
- Distribute prevention materials related to safe consumption and safer sex;
- Intervene on the appropriate use of prevention equipment and the reduction of risky practices;
- Intervene appropriately on the risks of interactions between substances, on safe injection techniques, on the risks associated with different injection sites and on the risks of overdose;
- Promote and ensure the safe recovery of consumer equipment;
- Update, popularize and disseminate prevention messages for HIV, hepatitis and other STBBIs adapted to people’s realities.
- Promote supervised injection site services;
- In collaboration with the work team, detect risk factors linked to health status and level of intoxication;
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of a post-injection complication and intervene;
- Ensure monitoring of services according to established protocols;

Job requirements:
- Have significant personal experience related to psychoactive substance use environments, the sex work industry, mental health recovery or the street environment and have the ability to share this experience and/or have academic training in a field related to social intervention or relevant experience;
- Academic training in a field related to social intervention or have significant experience that has allowed you to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for social intervention;
- Strong interest in the field of drug addiction, in the harm reduction approach, in the prevention of STBBIs and in the community environment;
- Good knowledge of prevention materials and risk practices for transmission of STIs;
- Good command of spoken and written French. Functional spoken English;
- Basic knowledge and skills to use computer tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
- Professional experience of a minimum of one year.
Hours per week:
Variables: day center (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and/or evening site (7:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.).
Salary :
Base hourly rate: $23.89 with possibility of recognition of experience according to the human resources policy.
Evening and weekend bonuses.
