Construction of a temporary Bailey bridge until the existing Milota bridge is renewed
St. Pölten (OTS) – By mid-June, in collaboration with the city of Krems, the Melk Pioneers of the Austrian Armed Forces and the state of Lower Austria, a temporary replacement bridge (Bailey Bridge) will be built as part of the flood protection project in order to enable the new construction of the existing Milota Bridge.
As part of the planned flood protection project, the existing Milota Bridge will be demolished and rebuilt for structural and flood protection reasons. To ensure the mobility of pedestrians and cyclists during this construction phase, a temporary bridge will be built from the end of December to mid-June.
LH deputy Udo Landbauer said: “I am very pleased that we can support the municipality of Krems an der Donau with this measure especially for pedestrians and cyclists here in Rehberg, in particular to ensure traffic safety for the way to school and kindergarten. Big thanks go to the Melk pioneers of the Austrian Armed Forces who built this makeshift bridge.”
During the six-month construction period of the new bridge, a 30 meter long and 3.3 meter wide replacement bridge will be built over the Krems to ensure traffic safety for pedestrians, especially on the way to school and kindergarten. The city of Krems covers the material costs as well as vehicle rental and fuel costs. The construction is being carried out by the Pioneer Battalion 3, Melk Pioneers of the Austrian Federal Army. The state of Lower Austria covers the non-cash costs. The construction project is part of a larger flood protection project along the Krems, which is being implemented by the city of Krems in cooperation with the hydraulic engineering department at the Office of the Lower Austrian State Government and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
