On the sidelines of his team’s morning training session, head instructor DJ Smith mentioned that the German hockey player’s troubles were related to knee-to-knee contact involving him with Nick Suzuki two days earlier. A confirmation of his participation or absence in the duel scheduled at the Canadian Tire Center will be made later.
The clash between Stützle and Suzuki – who had received a minor penalty for his gesture – caused talk on the ice and in the press conference room. Habs veteran Brendan Gallagher tried to attack the “Sens” color holder at the end of the game and in front of journalists, he accused him of having overreacted following the clash with Suzuki .
“The [Stützle] is an excellent player. I’ve been dealing with it for two years now. In at least half of his games he lay on the ice and came back on the ice for the next shift. There are children watching, we must serve as role models. If I was his teammate, I would tell him to be smarter,” said Gallagher, whose remarks were notably reported by “Le Journal de Montréal”.
Stützle has 15 goals and 28 assists for 43 points in 68 games this season.
