A 28-year-old criminal who shot a friend in broad daylight due to a love triangle in Repentigny in 2021 gets eight years in prison since he represents “a real danger to society”.

“The streets of a peaceful residential neighborhood cannot and must never become the scene of explosive rivalries. There are legitimate ways to resolve a conflict that has become invasive,” said Judge Éric Côté at the Joliette courthouse.
He thus sentenced Jeffrey Dimundu-Bellevue to an eight-year penitentiary sentence for discharging a firearm at Alexandre Graham in September 2021, with the intention of endangering his life. Due to pretrial detention, he currently has approximately four and a half years remaining to serve.
Hit by gunfire while jogging
The day of the tragedy, Alexandre Graham went out for a run in his neighborhood. On his way, he passed in front of the accused’s residence, “without ever stopping there,” he assured the court.
While he was on a sidewalk, rue de la Matapédia, around 5:15 p.m., the 36-year-old man saw an SUV approaching quickly. The latter was driven by Maria Komarova, the partner of the accused.
“Once the vehicle stopped near him, the accused pointed a firearm and fired three projectiles in his direction, from the front passenger window,” says the recently rendered sentencing decision.
While the victim rushed towards the accused to take the weapon out of his hands, a projectile hit him in the right arm. Dimundu-Bellevue still fired one last time in his direction, even though he was on the ground.

Love triangle
According to the Court, it is “a love triangle, a story of the heart gone wrong”.
Dimundu-Bellevue and his victim had been acquaintances for around ten years. They were even friends until the accused left his partner, who was pregnant at the time, and she began seeing Mr. Graham.
“Shortly after the birth of the child, an acrimonious climate developed between the two men, so that they were not in their first quarrels at the time of the events,” explained Judge Côté .
At the time of the crime, the victim believed that the accused “had an extramarital relationship with [la femme au cœur de la chicane]who had no longer been in a relationship with the victim for only three months,” it was stated during Dimundu-Bellevue’s guilty plea.
Run
It was only after three days on the run that the accused handed himself over to the police so that they could arrest him. The Repentigny police then issued a search notice in order to find the accused, whom they considered “armed and dangerous”.
Dimundu-Bellevue had no less than 20 criminal records since his adolescence for offenses involving violence, weapons and drugs, which had earned him stays of several months in prison.
These sentences “appear to have had little impact on the accused’s conduct,” according to the pre-sentence report.
In this case, the Crown asked for nine to ten years in prison, while the defense hoped to obtain four to six years.
