A 45-year-old man from Blankenberge received an 18-month prison sentence for a series of thefts and break-ins, including one in a hotel on the Coast where he was caught naked and under the influence of drugs.

Steve V. entered the Avenue Boutique Hotel in Blankenberge on July 13, 2023, according to the public prosecutor, using an access code that he remembered. When the police came to pick him up there, he was naked and under the influence of drugs. He had helped himself to a bottle opener, a telescope and pocket knives from the hotel storage room.

On October 18 of the same year, he came face to face with the police following breaking into another building to take lighters, a few sweaters, a watch and a dartboard, in the company of a friend, Samera H. Five days later, he tried to steal a day cream from an Aldi supermarket, still in Blankenberge.

It’s a never ending story“, underlined prosecutor Jochen van Aalst during his indictment, pointing out the defendant’s status as a repeat offender. The latter’s lawyer argued that his client was unfortunately poorly surrounded, but the Bruges judge followed the public prosecutor’s office to impose a firm prison sentence.
