New recruit for Les Engagés in view of the next elections. This Wednesday, September 13, at noon, the party gathered the press in the Standard de Liège to announce the arrival, in their ranks, of a “renowned Liège personality”.

It is not a football star, but the former boss of the Walloon bosses: Olivier de Wasseige. He will lead the Liège list for the 2024 regional elections, announces the party, which describes this arrival as “the fruit of multiple meetings and exchanges which led Maxime Prévot and Olivier de Wasseige, who already knew each other well on a professional level, to meet bring humanely closer together.”

A “social liberal”

Olivier de Wasseige, now 61 years old, has a career spanning 36 years, half of which was dedicated to entrepreneurship in digital and information technology. From 2017, he also held the position of CEO of the Walloon Business Union, but this collaboration ended last April. If the UWE then justified this decision because it was led to “rethink its organization and adjust its resources to its priorities”, the person concerned spoke of a “total incomprehension”, saying he had “experienced day and night” for UWE.

So here he is involved… within the Engagés, which he would not have joined, he said in a press release, “without the profound change they have made. I define myself today as a social liberal who wants to help with the necessary economic, social and environmental transition that our society sorely needs. However, it is precisely this desire for regeneration which is expressed within the Manifesto thanks to strong and relevant ideas. I am therefore in tune with the modern ambitions that they are now expressing. »

The press release further describes the priorities of the new recruit: “to promote those who work through an increase in low and medium salaries”, “to help each and everyone to find a job (…) and to create the conditions for “living well “at work”, as well as “(re)placing Walloon self-employed people and entrepreneurs at the heart of the development of our prosperity”.
