Mateo Botero, renowned Colombian skier, died this Sunday, December 10, in a spectacular motorcycle accident on the way to Las Palmas, in Medellín.
Apparently, Botero collided on a curve while he was driving a high-displacement motorcycle. This crash caused his death at the scene.
Botero, who had recently published on his social networks that he had acquired a Ducati motorcycle, died on it when he was out riding with his friends.
This 29-year-old skier from Antioquia was recognized for his high level in water skiing, presiding over the Paisa delegation of the discipline on several occasions and eventually forming the Colombian national team.
The athlete had been practicing this discipline for more than 15 years. During that period he managed to get on the podium at the Bolivarian Games in Playa Huanchaco-2014. He was also crowned the champion of the Ibagué-2015 National Sports Games, being part of the Antioquian team.
“The Olympic Committee expresses its deepest condolences to Mateo Botero’s family, his friends and the Colombian water skiing community for this loss,” the organization said in a statement.
The Colombian Water Ski and Wakeboard Federation also regretted the athlete’s departure: “we express our deepest condolences at the departure of our colleague and friend, Mateo Botero.”
