An indoor swimming pool, green roofs, renovated rooms: this is a large part of the work planned at the Métropole. The well-known hotel on Place De Brouckère in Brussels has been closed since April 2020. It was bought by the Lone Star investment fund – it will be operated by Centaurus Hospitality Management – which has just revealed part of the arrangements that he wants to lead.
His permit application is the subject of a public inquiry which began this Thursday. The philosophy of the project is to renovate the aging interior while preserving the memory of the past, that of a palace inaugurated in 1894!
A harmonious balance between past and present
“The next renovationexplain the project leaders, will focus on creating a contemporary environment offering both comfort and historic charm. The interior will be completely renovated with modern equipment, while listed elements will be preserved and restored. The result will be a harmonious balance between past and present.“
“The Métropole Hotel was initially designed by the famous architect Alban Chambon and was at the time an impressive and unmissable beacon of hospitality“, we further specify. “Over the years, the hotel has hosted many famous guests, including royalty, politicians, artists and writers, attracted by the unique atmosphere and charm of this historic venue. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece, characterized by its majestic facade, lush interiors and striking details. From the impressive lobby with its imposing staircase to the elegant guest rooms, each space exudes an atmosphere of timeless grandeur.“
But over the years, the hotel grew, extending to rue Neuve at the back to occupy uninteresting spaces.
Concretely, the project plans, among other things, to create a new reception, to modernize and add rooms (from 253 to 267), to remove lounges and gardens, to install green roofs aimed at promoting water management rain. “The renovation will also focus on technical improvements to make the hotel more sustainable and energy efficient. […] Sustainability will be an important aspect in the design and choice of materials, favoring environmentally friendly and reusable materials.“
The program also includes the creation of a 90 square meter indoor swimming pool on level minus 1 accompanied by saunas, a gym (weight training, yoga, etc.) In short: an area wellness and well-being, an offer that has become essential in today’s high-end hotel sector.
