Rennes University Hospital: thanks to this tablet, patients can speak with their eyes

The Nominoë Fund has just equipped the rehabilitation department of the CHU Pontchaillou, in Rennes, with a tablet with eye control. “It is aimed at patients deprived of any gestural or verbal communication. Thanks to this tablet, they can talk with their eyes”, explain the project managers.

A screen with eye control

With this equipment financed by donors brought together within the Nominoë Fund, patients whose pathology makes communication very difficult or even impossible can now talk to caregivers and their relatives. “The messages pass through a screen incorporating an eye control, installed on a mobile support that is easy to move from one room to another. »

The robotic voice is revolutionizing the daily lives of patients who can thus speak once more. “A patient totally paralyzed due to Guillain-Baré syndrome, deprived of all communication for several weeks, was able to express, not without emotion, her wishes thanks to this tool”, describes Marina Bouget, member of the team of the physical medicine and rehabilitation service.

This revolutionary technique will allow people with other paralyzing diseases, transient or permanent, to maintain a social bond. Since its launch in 2014, Nominoë has brought together nearly 5,000 donors, entrepreneurs and individuals, in order to finance projects that aim to improve the reception conditions for patients and their families.
