The one who was elected federal deputy for the first time in 2003, still under the banner of the cdH, and was minister twice (between 2004 and 2009 at the French Community, and for a few months in 2014 at the federal level) admits to having already reluctant to stand for re-election in 2019.
“If I stop, it is first of all because I believe in the importance of limiting the number of mandates. I believe in the need for renewal of the political class. Then, I need to find meaning in this what I do,” says Catherine Fonck.
“I am 150% invested in my role as a parliamentarian. But at the end of the week, I sometimes wonder if I have been useful. I feel more and more out of step with politics, with party politics, with the short-termism, with ‘pretending’ rather than ‘doing’, with this paralysis which is only getting worse. Politics suffers from a lack of results and effectiveness”, she says once more.
