This Thursday, June 15 at 8:30 p.m., Morgan Deal will host the last astronomy conference of the season, at the MJC André-Malraux “From the Big Bang to our everyday products: the cosmic story of lithium”.
All regarding lithium, an essential element
All of the matter that surrounds us is made up of atoms whose formation can be traced back to the first moments of the Big Bang. While the composition of the Universe is constantly changing and we know a great diversity of atoms, it is natural to wonder where they came from, how they were formed and how they arrived on our planet.
Of all the chemical compounds found on Earth, lithium, which is at the heart of new technologies, has a fascinating cosmic history.
This conference will first present the role of stars in the formation of atoms and the change in the composition of the Universe. Then, the long history of lithium will be traced, its origins, and the questions that remain for astrophysicists.
Passionate regarding astrophysics since adolescence, Morgan Deal is a postdoctoral researcher at the Univers et Particules laboratory in Montpellier.
After a doctorate between Toulouse and Montpellier, he carried out postdoctoral studies at the Meudon observatory and in Portugal. He is a specialist in stellar physics and he studies in particular the transport of chemical elements inside stars.
He is currently involved in the scientific preparation of ESA’s Plato space mission scheduled for launch in 2026.
