Renault has officially opened orders for the 100% electric retrofit kit approved for the Renault 5. Enough to appeal to all enthusiasts who have already been able to test the kit on another emblematic model in the Losanga range, the 4L. Today as yesterday, for the Renault 5 too, once equipped with this kit, the vehicle will be able to obtain approval and registration certificates to circulate everywhere, particularly in restricted traffic areas.

During the presentation of the new Ampère brand, Renault also took the opportunity to present one of its first models: the Renault Twingo. But while waiting for its arrival in 2026, a new era is opening for the Renault 5. The latter will benefit from the retrofit kit R-Fit. In fact, in the heart of France, French company R-Fit has built a distinctive reputation by specializing in the development of 100% electric conversion kits for iconic vehicles such as the 2CV et la 4L.

This electric conversion device will undoubtedly appeal to nostalgia lovers wanting to combine retro charm with modernity. Indeed, it breathes a welcome modernity into the famous city car of the 80s. It should also be noted that this retrofit kit is not not compatible with all R5s. In fact, it is mainly intended for the R5 TL and GTL 3 or 5 door models.

During the operation, the thermal engine and the fuel tank will be removed and replaced by an electric motor unit and a battery. This electric conversion should not only improve the R5’s durability, but also make them particularly suitable for the demands of city driving.

Unique Kit Features electrical conversion

The transformed Renault 5 retains the original mechanical transmission (with a four-speed manual gearbox), as well as the same weight distribution. But under the hood, an innovative approach was taken. The transformation kit includes a batterie LiFePo with a capacity of 10.7 kWh, allowing the Renault 5 to cover a distance of 80 km. It can be fully recharged from a domestic outlet de 16 A, 220 V, in just 3 hours 30 minutes. In addition, the electrical adaptation kit includes a efficient 22 kW electric motoror around 30 hp.

Other notable tweaks include the installation of a pump to power the brake assist and an electric heating system. However, to preserve the original driving experience, the Renault 5 retains its 4-speed manual gearbox.

The cost associated with this cutting-edge technology is an important consideration. Owners of the Renault 5 will have to invest 15,900 euros to switch to electric propulsion. This relatively high price might dissuade those who plan to embark on this adaptation project, especially since it is equivalent to the purchase price of a Dacia Spring Essential.

However, it should be noted that a motorist might benefit froma retrofit bonus equivalent to 80% of the cost of the transformation, capped at €6,000. In addition, there is the possibility of receiving a surprise of €1,000 if the residence or workplace is located in a Low Emission Zone (LEZ).
