Renault law and 60 jobs threatened at Ampacet in Messancy, “there will be layoffs”

Ampacet, a company specializing in the transformation of plastic materials, has been located on rue Ampacet in the industrial zone of Messancy for nearly four decades. The factory currently employs 133 workers, most of them from France. In temporary unemployment for several weeks, the workers and employees of the group have learned very bad news: nearly half of the jobs are threatened.

We know, and we hope, that the figure of 60 workers is exaggerated,” a union source told us. Last week, the blow fell for the factory workers. “We knew that a line was going to close. About fifteen job cuts were expected. The figure announced by management is much higher than expected. The situation has been complicated at Ampacet for several months. “The order books are not filling up. Wednesday, we announce a first meeting to follow the procedure of the Renault law. It is hoped that there will be as few layoffs as possible. We are counting on pre-pension departures. It is also to be expected that some workers will leave, voluntarily, for another factory of the group in the Grand Duchy. »

Complicated world situation

If the company is also active in Italy, Poland or Russia, not all workers can be re-employed. “The situation in the group at the global level is not easy with the current situation. It will therefore be difficult to avoid forced departures. A unit for employment should then be created. »

Workers will no doubt know more regarding what to expect following this Wednesday’s already decisive meeting.
