(Masrawy):
Dr. Abbas Sharaki, Professor of Geology and Water Resources, said that the third storage in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam has not started yet, explaining that the level of the Renaissance Dam lake has decreased by 4 meters to a level of 572 meters above sea level during the last three months following opening the two drainage gates, with a total of 2 billion cubic meters, and with the increase in rains at the end of June and the beginning of July, the lake began to recover that amount gradually, but it is still less than last year.
Sharaki added, in a post on his official page on the social networking site “Facebook”: “As is evident from the comparison of satellite images today with last August, the emergence of some islands, and the distance from the Serj Dam, and it is expected that it will recover last year’s level with a total of 8 billion meters. cube early next week.
Sharaki said: “The first storage is estimated at 5 billion m3 in the period from July 1-21, 2020, the second storage is estimated at 3 billion m3 in the period from July 4-18, 2021, and the third storage is expected to reach 5 billion m3 in the period (July 10 – August 5, 2022). In the event that the two drainage gates (50 million m3/day) continue to be opened.
He continued: “The water of the lake following the second storage in 2021 reached regarding one kilometer before the Sarj Dam, then it retreated following emptying and became more than 2 km. established by the American Reclamation Office in 1964 to store the border dam of the Renaissance now, but Zenawi, the former Ethiopian Prime Minister, wanted a large dam to perpetuate his name, so he built the complementary dam with a height of 50 meters to close the valley and reserve water that exceeds 11 billion until it becomes 74 billion cubic meters.
