The Remparts have now swept their three series so far and show a 12-0 record.
« Our players were extremely resilient, mentioned Patrick Roy following the game. It’s been the same throughout the season and it continues to be so. It makes me proud and, of course, my goalkeeper was exceptional. It was smoking hot from start to finish. »
His goalkeeper, William Rousseau, was once more a factor in the game, making big, timely saves to keep his team in the game. However, things got off to a bad start for him when he gave in on the first shot he received, that of Alexis Gendron, when there were only nine seconds left in the game. He then closed the door, frustrating in particular Cam MacDonald who had been awarded a penalty shot in the second period.
“The game didn’t start really well for me. Of course it can play in the head but I was able to recover quickly, ”said the 19-year-old goalkeeper.
The experience of recent years
The series between the Remparts and the Olympiques was played on details. Two games in overtime and the other two close until the very end. In the end, the common denominator was that the Red Devils were able to score the big, important goals in key moments.
Perhaps that’s the positive the team took from the heartbreaking loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes last year.
“I think you learn to win. I was watching the Cataractes, last year, they had experienced disappointments the year before once morest Rimouski and they went on to win. We experienced our disappointment once morest the Cataractes and we have to learn to win. That’s what our guys did. »
But the Remparts were not satisfied following the match. A first objective was achieved, that of making it to the final. But they still lack four victories to say mission accomplished.
“The work is not finished. We have four victories to go but we have proven how good a team we are and we have our place in the final. »
Key opportunism
In the Olympiques camp, we had the feeling that the final result did not represent the look of the series.
“They capitalized on their chances and Rousseau was phenomenal,” summed up head coach Louis Robitaille.
In the end, the opportunism of the Remparts meant that the Olympiques only had the lead for a little over 15 minutes in the entire series.
“It played into the balance. On the other hand, I found that when we trailed, we played better hockey,” noted the coach.
The Remparts will now have to wait for the result of the other semi-final between the Halifax Mooseheads and the Sherbrooke Phoenix. They lead 2-1 and the fourth game will take place Thursday night in Sherbrooke.
