The painter Raymond Pilon, known worldwide as Zïlon, died at the age of 67.
The Beauchamp Art Gallery made the announcement Saturday morning on Facebook. The artist had just celebrated his birthday last Tuesday.
“Zïlon was the father of Quebec street art, an artistic movement that he initiated with a passion that was matched only by his endless creativity. He saw a natural relationship between his work and that of the works of Cocteau”, wrote the gallery, recalling that his contribution had no borders, because of his international collaborations.
The Beauchamp Art Gallery believes that Quebec is losing “a creator, an innovator and a rebel”.

“This energy of a punk musician from the beginning of the 80s, Zïlon has never lost it. He carried within him a vision of the world allowing him to metabolize underground culture, popular culture, design and social advocacy by expressing himself in street art and creating his own language, his own artistic signature. also read in the long message paying tribute to him.
