Remembering Zeus: The World’s Largest Dog’s Battle with Bone Cancer

The world’s largest dog lost his battle with bone cancer on Tuesday following suffering complications following the amputation of one of his legs last week in an attempt to slow the progression of the disease.

“Our baby boy is gone. Our hearts are broken. He had the best doctors who sat on the floor and cried with us. He fought hard, but the pneumonia was just too much. He no longer suffers. He is resting peacefully,” announced his owner, Brittany Davis, on the GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign on Tuesday.

On Friday, Zeus, the Texas Great Dane who was voted the tallest dog on earth by the Guinness World Records, had his right front leg amputated in an attempt to prevent his aggressive bone cancer from spreading further.

If the operation had gone well at first, the dog would have suffered from pneumonia in the following days, before developing a fever and losing his appetite, his mistress wrote earlier Tuesday, who hoped that the young three-year-old mastiff gets back on track.

“Zeus focused much of his life into three short years and was ready to beat cancer. We are very grateful for the time we spent with Zeus. He brought so much joy and happiness to so many people,” she confided in an interview, according to The Sun.
