Yang Qingshun, the “son of billiards” who twice won the Asian Games gold medal, was shocked to hear today (6th) that he passed away due to worsening lung cancer at the age of 45. Zhang Mingxiong, executive supervisor of the Billiards Association of the Republic of China, lamented that “life is impermanent.” Master Zhao Fengbang said sadly that it was a pity.

Sources in the forum revealed that Yang Qingshun went to the doctor for physical discomfort in the middle of last year and found a lung tumor. Because the cancer cells had spread to the arteries at that time, he might only take conservative treatment. The first chemotherapy experience made Yang Qingshun feel too painful. Yang Qingshun from Kaohsiung became famous very early. From “pool prodigy” to “son of pool”, he is the benchmark player of billiards in Taiwan. In the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, he won the gold medal in the No. 9-ball singles and the silver medal in the No. 8-ball doubles. He also won the freestyle 9 at the Busan Asian Games. He won the gold medal in the number ball individual competition, and also won the third place in the 2002 World Freestyle Pool Championship. He has won numerous awards in his career.

Yang Qingshun kept a low profile following suffering from cancer. However, he still kept in touch with his master Zhao Fengbang. Zhao Fengbang had rushed to the funeral parlor to assist the family with funeral arrangements. In a telephone interview with “Central News Agency”, he said that Yang Qingshun had been ill for some time. Regarding the death of his beloved disciple, he said frankly , I feel it is a pity.

After Yang Qingshun passed away this morning, the Billiards Federation of the Republic of China sent out a sentimental message, writing: “Thank you for writing a beautiful and gorgeous chapter for Taiwan’s billiards.
