Ottawa confirmed Tuesday the death of Tiferet Lapidot, one of some 1,400 victims of the assault by Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip on October 7.
She would have celebrated her 23rd birthday three days following her assassination.
“She was always happy and shared her love with the children,” confides Mr. Lapidot in an interview with the Montreal Journal. She helped Muslims, Christians, Jews, religion didn’t matter.”
“Children are children, humans are humans. It was his way of living,” he adds, his throat tight with emotion.
Tiferet’s relatives, accompanied by hundreds of people, celebrated his funeral in Israel on Tuesday, including his uncle who grew up in Saskatchewan, Harel Lapidot.
Tiferet Lapidot has spent the last few years, following his studies, volunteering in Israel and more recently in South Africa with children with special needs.
She had been missing since attending the Supernova music festival in the Negev desert, a few kilometers from the Gaza Strip.
His body was finally identified several days later.
“You can imagine what kind of death we are talking regarding,” says Harel Lapidot.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, met Harel Lapidot and the victim’s father on site in Israel.
“They talked to me regarding what a brilliant, beautiful young woman she was. I offer my condolences to his family and loved ones,” she said.
Tiferet’s family – who live in Montreal and Saskatchewan – launched a heartfelt cry to Ottawa last week, begging the government to help find her.
The news of his death increases to six the number of victims of Canadian origin who died during the Hamas attack on civilians in Israel, which also includes Montrealer Alexandre Look.
Two other Canadians are still missing. These might be among the hostages held by Hamas.
