Jerusalem ∙ Hana Nachenberg (53), an Israeli woman who was unconscious for 22 years, died following being injured in a suicide bombing. The death toll in the attack has risen to 16.

On August 9, 2001, a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up while eating in a restaurant in Jerusalem with his 3-year-old daughter. The daughter escaped unharmed.

Ahlam Tamimi, the Palestinian woman who masterminded the explosion, was arrested by Israel and sentenced to 16 life terms. Tamimi was released in 2011 under a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas. They currently live in Jordan. There is still intense pressure on Jordan to extradite Tamimi to trial in the US. The case is being prosecuted by the parents of the US-born girl who was killed that day.
