In Tournai, as in all of Picardy Wallonia, emotion remains strong, three days following the terrible road accident which claimed the lives of five members of the same family, in Marquain. As we know, the dentist Vincent Messiaen, also active in the sporting and associative life of his region, his wife and their three children, were very popular. The expressions of affection and other messages of desolation continue to flow. There are words of support for the rest of the family, and also memories of a happy past, of a beautiful friendship. This is the case for Coralie Ladavid, Alderman for International Solidarity, Housing, Citizen Participation and Equal Opportunities in Tournai, who had rubbed shoulders with Vincent Messiaen on the school benches.

“It was in secondary school, he was in Latin-Greek and I in Latin-language” recalls Coralie Ladavid, who learned the sad news while she was on vacation. “I was sitting right in front of him, and we laughed a lot during that whole time, because Vincent was a teasing person, and always made those around him laugh. He was someone who didn’t argue with anyone, loved by everyone. We sometimes say that easily of someone who has just left, but in his case it is especially true. I had a lot of trouble learning regarding the drama”.

Charles was following in his dad’s footsteps

Still marked by the loss of his former classmate, the alderman from Tournai is not surprised by the wave of support and tributes of the last few days. “What stood out regarding him was his great loyalty in friendship,” she continues. “He has retained many friends from his primary and secondary school days, and everything indicates that his children were following the same path, since his eldest son, Charles, was a friend of my daughter and part of a tight group of friends too. »

Personality traits that were confirmed during the last carnival in Tournai. “It was our reunion point, indeed, the moment when we saw each other. We had a great time at Le Coq Wallon”.

A kind of rallying symbol. -DR

Like other relatives of the Messiaen family, the alderman from Tournai sports on the networks this graphic design which represents closed eyes, with a tear flowing. “I interpret it as a sort of sign of rallying, of mourning, as its brotherhood of the Big Angels had already displayed in the past, during the loss of one of its members”.
