On the occasion of a tribute program to comedian Guillaume Bats, who died on June 2, Éric Antoine remembered the young man on June 7 at the microphone of “Loft Music Sud Radio”.

The 46-year-old magician returned to their meeting. While Éric Antoine took part in the comedy show “Les Duos Impossibles”, the initiator of this festival, Jérémy Ferrari asked him to form a duo with Guillaume Bats. “In the sketch I wrote for our performance, I said he was a man all in one, an artist, a comedian, a work of art: a Picasso. And our friendship started there. It was a beautiful moment, very joyful, ”he said.

Atypical dark humor

The M6 host also mentioned Guillaume Bats’ “very personal” sense of humor. “He has a very intimate sense of humor […]. He will look deep within himself. There was obviously a lot of his private life, his experiences that are quite exceptional. Because the young comedian used to tell in his jokes his “quite unique and specific experience” such as his birth with 46 fractures, his abandonment by his biological family or his adoption. “With him, there was poetry, and that’s what I appreciated the most. He managed to laugh at his story and made us laugh with it. »

A beautiful and bad joke

Since their passage, the two artists have certainly become friends but also work colleagues. In 2013, Éric Antoine co-produced with Jérémy Ferrari the very first show by Guillaume Bats entitled “Attention à la tête”.

When signing the contract, the late humorist told him: “Sign me quickly because my life expectancy is very short”. A joke originally but that the great magician took at face value: “I was convinced that it was true, that it was not a valve”.

But a few years later, Guillaume Bats confirmed to him that he was not serious: “When Jérémy and him read the last show to me, Guillaume said to me: “You know, I have a hope completely normal life, I did this so that you would sign me very quickly”.

“We shared deeper moments, when we talked regarding love, daily life, couples, children… Subjects that we talk regarding with a friend”, he concluded.

A friend marked forever

Like Éric Antoine and several comedians, Jérémy Ferrari also paid tribute to him last week, the day of the announcement of his disappearance. The 38-year-old producer then revealed, on his Instagram account, the circumstances of the death of Guillaume Bats.

The comedian was to give a conference the day before at 7:30 p.m. But not having shown up at the meeting and not answering his calls, the screenwriter therefore came to his home. “And I found him deceased in his bed probably in his sleep, but that remains to be confirmed by the doctors,” he continued.

Marked by this ordeal, the director of Dark Smile Productions asked his subscribers to retain only “the talent, the courage, the strength and the light” of the one he nicknamed “his little brother”.

A comedy star gone too soon

The announcement of the disappearance of Guillaume Bats was communicated by its producers, on the morning of June 2. Suffering from brittle bone disease, the late comedian became known on social networks for his humorous sketches, where he made fun of his disability in particular.

Discovered in December 2011 by the general public, in Laurent Ruquier’s program “On n’demande qu’en rire”, the actor then hosted the first part of Anthony Kavanagh’s show or even Jean-Marie bigard.

The comedian was, since January 2023, on tour throughout France with his new show “Inchallah”, co-written with Jérémy Ferrari.
