Famous Irish singer Sinead O’Connor passed away at the age of 56 today, Wednesday, following years of mental illness.
Her family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead. Her family and friends are devastated and have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.”
O’Connor’s death comes nearly a year and a half following her 17-year-old son died following escaping from hospital.
O’Connor revealed, in 2007, during an interview on The Oprah Show, that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and that she had attempted suicide on her 33rd birthday in 1999.
