Silvina Luna died this Thursday, at the age of 43. The Argentine Association of Actors confirmed the death. She had been hospitalized for more than 80 days at the Italian Hospital due to kidney failure that she had been suffering from since 2011, as a result of malpractice in an aesthetic intervention carried out by the surgeon Aníbal Lotocki. This Thursday her family decided to disconnect her.
Luna suffered from a bacterial infection that was complicated by her underlying illness of hypercalcemia and kidney failure. She had recently been intubated to “ensure the administration of high concentration oxygen”, but shortly following her family opted to disconnect her.
Lawyer Fernando Burlandowho represented her in the case once morest Lotocki, had said this Thursday that the model was “fighting for his life”. In addition, he referred to methacrylate, the substance that was injected into him and that brought him serious health problems: “It’s like an engine, it has to be lubricated, but it turns out to have sand and stones in it. That’s what happens with this crap.”
A few weeks ago, Silvina’s condition had become even more complicated following the confirmation that she had been infected with covid-19 in the hospital. On August 30, the swab was negative, but her general picture was still “critical.”
In May 2023, Silvina said that she had started a dialysis treatment and that she had to “defeat a bacteria” that had settled in her lung so that she might later be added to the INCUCAI waiting list to receive a kidney transplant.
“Without this machine I might not live. I do this 3 times a week for 4 hours. Until I can transplant myself. I am not yet on the list because other things have to be seen before,” he had told on his social networks.
How did Silvina Luna become famous?
The actress, model and television presenter, originally from Rosario, began her career in the media in 2001, when she entered the second edition of Big Brother, the reality show that marked Argentine television at the beginning of the century.

Four years later, she participated in the “Bailando por un sueño” contest, where she was also the seventh eliminated and in 2017 she was called up once more to compete in the cycle led by Marcelo Tinelli.
Silvina had participations in fiction strips, among the most remembered are her participation in “Los Roldán”, “Son de Fierro” and “Ciega a citas”. She was also encouraged on the big screen and starred in two films: “The wagon in the world of cinema” (2012) and “Crazy she, crazy me” (2018).

Silvina Luna’s reflections in her book
Committed to her self-knowledge process, Silvina trained as an ontological coach and adopted meditation and breathing tools. In December 2022, she published her first book, entitled “Simple and Conscious: a healing, physical, mental and spiritual journey”, a synthesis of her journey following the malpractice.
“In this book I review my past, I recount events in my life that marked me, with which you will surely feel identified. Certain decisions and actions had their consequences, to the point of losing my health, ”he wrote on his social networks the day the book was launched.
In a fragment of the book, Silvina tells that when she found out regarding her diagnosis, she lived in Mexico. The medical report threw her off balance and in the following two hours she was in a “trance”, from which she only came out with a call from a friend. “After a long time I began to ask what my vocation was, what meaning my life had, and then I began to accept everything,” she says in the book.
What is methacrylate
Methacrylate is a synthetic product made up of acrylic microspheres. In Argentina, the use of methacrylate has been prohibited since 2001 in certain surgeries, such as buttock or calf augmentation, due to the high risk of presenting health complications.
Some of the consequences that the introduction of methacrylate into the body can bring is the migration of the microspheres to certain organs, pulmonary embolisms, renal or cardiac failure and general fatigue.
The doctor Aníbal Lotocki has a long history of malpractice complaints and weighs on him a sentence of four years in prison. Some of the public figures who passed through his office and had consequences on his health were Gabriela Trenchi, Stefanía Xipolitakis and Pamela Sosa.
