It was in the troupe of Micheline Legendre, also a pioneer in the art of puppetry in Quebec, that Nicole Lapointe and her lifelong colleague, Pierre Régimbald, who was stabbed to death in July 2004. Both first brought some of their puppets to the small screen thanks to Fanfreluchea children’s series broadcast between 1968 and 1971 on Radio-Canada television.
Nicole Lapointe and Pierre Régimbald subsequently gave life — and their name — to Nick and Peaktwo mice traveling in a hot air balloon around the world.
It is, however, as co-creator of the puppets of Master key that Nicole Lapointe has truly made herself known. “An exceptional artist, she bequeaths to the children and adults of Quebec the memory of her magnificent creations and their fantastic world. Her puppets, whom she called her children, remain in our children’s heads as very real precious characters, ”we can read in her obituary.
Nicole Lapointe’s funeral will be celebrated at Saint-Viateur Church in Outremont on Friday, August 18.
