La Gilbertona, cultural icon of Culiacán, dies following days of speculation

Gilberto Salomón Vázquez, known in the entertainment industry as La Gilbertona, died on March 14 of pneumonia. His followers, who had been nervous regarding his health for days, learned the sad news following the influencer’s representative, Pavel Moreno, confirmed it with an emotional video published on social networks.

Originally from Culiacán, Sinaloa, La Gilbertona became an internet phenomenon since videos of her daily life went viral a few years ago. In her clips, the influencer showed a carefree, fun and somewhat acidic attitude, in addition to her rather daring opinions that she seasoned, almost always, with bad words.

Gilberto Salomón’s particular sense of humor made her connect immediately with the audience and just a couple of viral videos later she gained a large audience, turning her into an internet celebrity. Of course, when the news of his unfortunate death was confirmed, social media was flooded with sad farewell messages.

Of course, the beloved Gilbertona was laid to rest in her native Culiacán, as announced by Pavel Moreno in the video where he confirmed the death. The man gave the exact name of the funeral home (Moreh Inhumaciones), which caused gigantic floral arrangements to arrive at the location, signed by well-known organized crime groups.

Apparently, judging by the signatures, the flowers were a gift from Chapo Guzmán’s family, since on the ribbon that crossed the arrangement it was possible to read: “For a person who always conquered a smile. Guzmán López Family.”

Likewise, other of the extensive floral arrangements that arrived at the funeral home came with a dedication allegedly from Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, who is the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel: “From his friend Ismael Zambada,” the ribbon reads. .

“You will always be in our hearts. Your friends from Jalisco,” says another of the arrangements, which leads to the suspicion that he was sent by the CJNG.

These gifts have raised the debate regarding whether Gilbertona was related, in some way, to drug trafficking. However, the arrival of these bouquets of flowers, which by the way are not cheap at all and cost thousands of pesos, might simply reflect the reach that the influencer had, where she would have even conquered the sense of humor of the most dangerous criminals in the country.

The representative of La Gilbertona had a meeting with the media where he detailed his last interaction with the influencer, whom he said he adored and whose death was particularly painful for him. The representative said:

“Yesterday I grabbed his hand and told him ‘old man, I want you to know that you are my partner and I love you very much.’ ‘You know that there are friends,’ I told him, ‘that there are people who come into your life and who are your friends, who are not yours at all and you come to love them like your family.'”

On many occasions, Pavel stated that he had great appreciation for Gilbertona, and always referred to her as a woman, because despite her sexuality, he saw her “as a lady.” When the influencer died, Pavel communicated it visibly affected:

“Gilberto passed away regarding an hour ago. Now they can say that Gilberto died. He will be buried at a funeral home here in Culiacán, Sinaloa. Yesterday he was very bad, I talked to him yesterday, the little he was able to talk. And today he is gone. He is already resting in peace now.
